Is there a membership fee? Do I have to pay for uniforms?
Yes. An annual $20 per member fee is required for membership. Your uniform, equipment, training, and use of patrol vehicles (e.g. fuel) are provided at no expense to the members - the McKinney Police Deparment regards our volunteers as one of their own. They cover those costs.
Will a background check be done on me when I apply?
Yes. An extensive background check and multiple interviews will be conducted. Members are given much responsibility and access, and we must ensure the safety of our department and community.
Will I ever be in danger?
There is the possibility that you may be in a dangerous situation, however, our members are trained to report suspicious activity and to avoid danger as much as possible.
Are those Skywatch Towers really manned?
Absolutely! Our team, who are in direct contact with the police department at all times, are in there.
Are you part of a national organization?
Yes. We are part of VIP (Volunteers in Police Service).
