
About Our Origination
Our organization has been around for a while. In 1997, McKinney Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (MCPAAA) was established but in 2014, we changed the name to McKinney Citizens on Patrol (MCOPA), as it more accurately reflects our mission.
We exist to bring together graduates of the McKinney Citizens Police Academy (CPA) to support the McKinney Police Department (MPD), to enhance the relations between the community and the MPD, to foster the development of MCOPA members, and for continuing education.
Today MCOPA trains academy-graduated volunteers to serve the police department and the community. This is how we serve:

July 4, 2021
Members of the Citizens on Patrol team joined the celebration at Craig Ranch Soccer Fields where thousands joined in the Fourth of July festivities.
McKinney Citizens on Patrol Association provided extra eyes and ears on the ground as they patrolled the premises and helped with traffic control.

Drug Takeback

MCPAAA Members assist with the National Drug Takeback program. This is a National program to depose of unwanted prescription medications

National Night Out

Many McKinney residents participated in the National Night Out event where many neighborhoods hosted block parties for neighbors.
MPD and MCPAAA teams enjoyed meeting the neighbors too!

Patriot Day / 9-11 Ceremony
September 11, 2021
On this Patriot Day, the men and women of the McKinney Police Department honor the memory of the thousands who were killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.In Attendance was the McKinney Citizens on Patrol.

MCPAAA members team up with McKinney Police getting to know the citizens of the city at many local businesses.

Christmas Parade of Lights

Enjoying some community Christmas spirit, MCOPA members participated in the family fun downtown McKinney for the Parade of Lights. Not only did they show their festive spirit by participating in the parade, they assisted MPD by providing a team for crowd and traffic control. Well done!

Citizens Police Academy
February 4, 2021
Selected residents accepted into spring session of Citizens Police Academy learn more about their police department, police work and personal safety. Participants are introduced to traffic-related laws, DWI stops, crime scene investigations, SWAT, K9, mounted unit and other police functions.
Graduates are eligible for further training as part of MCOPA.
